Custom drapery Q&A

What to know before you choose.

Clear answers about fabrics, fullness, hardware, motorization, measurement and installation.

What does 2× fullness mean?

It means the fabric width is approximately twice the track or rod width. This creates fuller folds, a richer appearance and more consistent light diffusion when the panels are open or closed.

What is the difference between sheer, dim-out and blackout fabrics?

Sheers soften daylight and offer daytime privacy. Dim-out fabrics reduce glare and outside light. Blackout fabrics provide the deepest darkening and are commonly chosen for bedrooms and media rooms.

Will blackout drapery make a room completely dark?

Blackout lining significantly reduces light, but small gaps can remain at the top, sides or center. Wider returns, suitable overlap and a ceiling-mounted track or pelmet can improve room darkening.

Should I choose ripplefold or pinch pleat?

Ripplefold creates an even modern wave and stacks neatly. Pinch pleat has a more tailored, traditional appearance. The room style, available stack space and preferred hardware usually guide the choice.

Is a track or decorative rod better?

Tracks generally glide more smoothly and suit wide spans or ceiling mounting. Decorative rods make the hardware part of the design and work well when finials and brackets should remain visible.

Can custom drapery be motorized?

Yes. Motorized tracks are available for compatible installations and are especially useful for tall windows, wide openings, frequent operation and smart-home routines.

How do you measure custom drapery?

We check the full span, finished length, mounting surface, stack space, returns and floor or sill conditions. These measurements determine the panel size, track position and finished drop.

What are the typical lead time and installation process?

Lead time depends on the selected fabric, lining, hardware and season. Once the order is ready, our team installs the track or rod, hangs the panels and dresses the folds for the final fit.
